"Out on the wiley, windy moors, we'd roll and fall in green . . . "

Baildon Moor

With deference to Kate Bush and Emily
Brontė, the 23rd Northern Microcar Rally was held in Wuthering Heights country near to Baildon - and did the wind blow and rain fall!  However spirits were not dampened by the inclement weather.

Woolpack Inn

Early arrivals on Thursday evening ventured off to the nearby Woolpack Inn of Emmerdale fame at nearby Esholt village.  Sadly Amos, Mr. Wilkes, Annie, Jack and Seth had long departed.

Saltaire Village

Titus Salt

World Heritage Site Saltaire Village was our destination on Friday for a walking tour of the 'model village' founded by wool merchant and entrepreneur Titus Salt.  A thoroughly absorbing guided tour gave us an insight to the working lives of the mill workers of Salts Mill and the overpowering paternalistic nature of Titus Salt.

Cow and Calf Rocks

Our Saturday road run headed towards Ilkley stopping of elevenses at the Cow and Calf rocks on Ilkley Moor (baht 'at!) before lunching by the river Wharfe.  We continued on through the beautiful Yorkshire countryside stopping at Swinsty Reservoir.

Garden Party

Our afternoon continued with a Garden Party graciously hosted by Graham & Carole Dewhurst.  Lots of scrummy home made cakes with strawberries and cream - bliss!

Saturday evening followed the traditional format of quiz (thanks Tom), raffle, and feely bags (!).  Music was provided by Neil Foster, heating by Jim Hacking, and as ever, a good time was had by all.

Congratulations to our prize winners:

Sunday saw the sun come out at last and our road run to a local hostelry for lunch provided the perfect end to the week-end.

Final thanks to Ray Glendinning our Event Co-ordinator for bringing the whole event together.

Nigel
